Staff reporter, 22-Apr-2012
Customs officers have seized an
estimated $4m-worth of counterfeit sportswear from a warehouse in
Sacremanto, US.
The bulk of the seized goods, which included tens of thousands of
individual clothing items, shoes and sport memorabilia, were
illegal copies of Adidas products, according to the Immigration and
Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations
division.
The HSI believes that the counterfeit goods were manufactured in
Southeast Asia and were destined for sale in markets and over the
Internet.
- Meanwhile HSI agents seized nearly 20,000 counterfeit items -
including handbags, National Football League (NFL) merchandise,
NIKE brand sneakers and a range of DVDs and CDs at a flea market in
El Paso, Texas last week. The goods had an estimated retail value
of nearly $900,000.
