14k fake items seized in Chinese crackdown

A three-way operation between customs authorities in China, Hong Kong and Macao has resulted in the seizure of around 14,000 counterfeit items – mainly clothing and accessories – worth an estimated HK$3.9m (around $500,000).

The suspected counterfeit goods seized by Hong Kong Customs included sports shoes, clothes, ornaments, watches, sunglasses, mobile phone accessories and earphones.

The 19-day joint enforcement operation was carried out between April 24 and May 12, with the aim of disrupting cross-boundary counterfeiting transshipment activities in the three territories.

Most of the intercepted goods were destined for overseas countries, particularly North America, South America, and Europe as well as countries and regions along China’s ‘belt and road’ initiative (BRI).
