Celebrity spat over counterfeit Rolex

John MayerCounterfeit Rolexes have caused another celebrity scandal in the US, with singer John Mayer accusing a friend of actor Charlie Sheen of supplying fake vintage watches and parts.

Mayer (pictured) - who recently split with fellow singer Katy Perry - filed a $650-000-plus lawsuit in a Los Angeles court against Robert Maron, claiming to have sent $5m purchasing high-end vintage watches from him over the last few years, according to a report from TMZ.

At the heart of the complaint is that Maron allegedly supplied watches that were not completely authentic, in other words they contained replica parts or components from other models. The authenticity of the timepiece came into question when Mayer sent it in for repair. Questions have also been raised about the authenticity of seven other watches.

Sheen has publicly criticised Mayer for filing the lawsuit, accusing the singer of making significant profits from the sale of some other watches sourced from Maron, according to TMZ.

Last year, the lead singer of pop punk band Forever the Sickest Kids also got into hot water after he was charged with offenses related to trademark infringement and attempted distribution of counterfeit Rolex watches.
