eBay teams with fashion designers for auction

eBay has teamed up with members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) to raise awareness of counterfeiting.
The collaboration, now in its third year, sees 90 CFDA members customising a canvas bag for sale on the online auction site. Proceeds from the sale of the ‘You Can’t Fake Fashion’ bags go to the CFDA Foundation, an entity that supports charitable causes.
"With 90 designers on board this year, each customising a bag as one-of-a-kind to show their support, eBay and CFDA are dedicated to protecting original design and the integrity of the fashion industry," Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA, told Forbes.
Bidding on the bags will start at $100 when they go up for a week long auction on March 18. The basic bag on which each custom design is also on sale for $35. eBay now claims to facilitate the sale of a designer bag every four minutes, and works with the CFDA to weed out fakes.
