Fake luxury goods displayed in North Korea store; report

North Korea is a well-publicised source of counterfeit consumer goods, but it seems there is demand for designer brands among its citizens as well – despite the country's rhetoric against western consumerism.

A report on the China-based North Korean propaganda news service DPRK Today says that knock-offs of Chanel and Burberry bags, Dior perfumes and ASICS sports shoes were on display during an exhibition at Pyongyang Department Store No. 1 in the North Korean capital (pictured above), according to a Korea Bizwire report.

The report claims that the Pyongyang government "shed light on the quality improvement of its consumer goods, claiming that all of the displayed items were made using its own technology and capabilities."
