RFID Canada introduces tamper-evident jewellery tag
Nick Taylor, 26-Sep-2012
RFID Canada has introduced a tamper-evident tag to track high-value products like jewellery and small electronics.
Applying RFID (radio frequency identification) tags to small items using the tamper-evident wire loop locks allows retailers to track inventory using a handheld reader. If the loop breaks the tag becomes unreadable, alerting a retailer to a possible switching of the real item for a counterfeit.
Without this layer of security a retailer may be unaware someone is replacing authentic items with low-value fakes. The presence of visible tags is also a deterrent to would-be shoplifters.
Anti-collision technology used in the high-frequency tags allows retailers to read multiple tags simultaneously and check inventories without removing items from their display cases.
RFID Canada has begun distributing the HID Global-manufactured tags as part of its range of high-frequency RFID tags. California-based HID Global will add a custom store or manufacturer logo to the tags at the request of customers.
