Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Indianapolis and Louisville have seized hundreds of sports jerseys and championship rings with a combined value of a little under $290,000 at manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP).
One shipment was seized in Indianapolis on the way to a residence in Bakersfield, California, while two more were intercepted in Louisville en route to University Park, Illinois and West Chapel, Florida. The shipments were sent from various locations in China.
The haul included counterfeit jerseys from several National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), and National Football League teams and championship rings for the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, NBA Boston Celtics, and the University of Georgia.
"Officers deemed these were all counterfeit based on various observations, such as improper description of goods, value declared, packaging, poor quality materials, sub-par printing, and demonstrated practices such as the shipping of a commercial quantity of items to a residential address," said CBP in a statement.
