Fake detergent seized on Bulgaria, Turkiye border

Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo customs port in Bulgaria intercepted a trunk crossing the border from Turkiye that was found to contain thousands of kilos of counterfeit detergent.

The Croatia-registered vehicle was being driven by a Croatian national and was en route to Austria, according to a report on the Bulgarian News Agency. The trademark or trademarks that were being counterfeited have not been revealed but is said to be a well-known brand.

Detergent producers say there are potential risks associated with using counterfeits, including exposure to unknown chemicals that could be toxic or cause allergic reactions and may well be less effective at cleaning clothes, ripping off customers and damaging the brand’s reputation.

The shipment included almost 11,000 2kg packages which have been confirmed by the brand owner as counterfeit after testing.
