Medtech firm InMode wins injunction over counterfeits
, 07-Nov-2024
US medical devices manufacturer InMode has been granted a preliminary injunction against various defendants it accuses of selling counterfeit versions of its products.
The lawsuit – being heard in the US district court for the central district of California – focuses on what are alleged to be unauthorised copies of InMode's Morpheus8 range of radiofrequency devices and cartridge accessories, a microneedling technology used in skin-tightening procedures.
The technology has attracted a massive following thanks to a string of celebrity endorsements, including the likes of Kim Kardashian, making it a target for illegitimate sellers hoping to cash in on InMode's success. InMode's revenues – from sales and pre-orders – were $130 million in the third quarter, up almost 6 per cent, and the company expects the full-year tally to reach more than $410 million.
In a statement, InMode said the preliminary injunction has called for the freezing of assets and account listings of all sellers involved in the sale of the counterfeits.
