Raid disrupts counterfeit cosmetics trade in Malaysia
Staff reporter, 24-Aug-2014
An operation in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur has resulted in the seizure of around $134,000-worth of counterfeit cosmetic goods.
The surprise raid - set up by two leading cosmetics manufacturers with the help of lawfirm Wong & Partners and the enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) - resulted in the shutdown of several shops in the busy city centre shopping mall.
The raid "created commotion in the counterfeiting market", according to Wong & Partners partner Brian Law, who added that it disrupted the operations of six business operations peddling the bootleg products.
More than 40,000 units of counterfeit cosmetic products were seized from the operation.
