Supplement firm Bioventra warns of online fakes

A manufacturer of dietary supplements, Florida, US-based Bioventra, has warned that counterfeits of one of its products are "flooding" online marketplaces.

The fake versions of Bioventra's Mitolyn supplement – claimed to support the function of mitochondria in cells and help people lose weight – "are often marketed under similar packaging but contain unauthorised ingredients that do not align with the carefully formulated blend" sold by the company, it said in a statement.

"With reports of misleading labelling, altered ingredients, and unverified sellers, consumers are being urged to exercise caution and verify sources before making a purchase," it continued, alluding to inconsistent packaging, suspicious ingredient lists, and unregulated formulations that could contain allergens, contaminants or unregulated ingredients and so pose health risks.

"Many consumers who have unknowingly purchased counterfeit versions have searched for Mitolyn side effects after experiencing unexpected reactions," said the company. "Online health forums and social media discussions continue to highlight concerns from buyers who suspect their product was not legitimate."

Bioventra said it is working with legal teams and e-commerce platforms to remove unauthorised listings and taking legal action against rogue sellers.
