Egypt uncovers suspect Dostinex cache

A police operation in Egypt has unearthed a sizeable amount of medicine, badged up as Pfizer’s Dostinex, that is suspected of being counterfeit.

The haul was 21,000 tablets of Dostinex (cabergoline), a drug used to treat abnormally elevated levels of the hormone prolactin in the body but which has also found illegal applications as a performance-enhancing drug for sportsmen and to prevent sexual dysfunction in body builders misusing steroids.

According to  a Dow Jones news report, a Jordanian man living in Egypt has been arrested and if found guilty of trading in counterfeit medicines could face seven years in jail.

The head of Egypt’s anti-fraud unit, General Mustafa Amr, said that the products were manufactured in China and arrived in Egypt after being shipped through Syria.
