In a bid to protect its customers from counterfeits, automotive parts specialist Dana has started using a security label on its products with the help of Authentic Vision.
The Dana Secure Label will be used on Victor Reinz brand products – which include sealing and shielding systems, gaskets and components for fuel cells – and features a single, serialised QR code and integrated hologram containing a unique digital fingerprint. The label is generally on the product packaging but sometimes is used directly on the product itself.
"Scanning the QR code with a smartphone with the Dana Secure App immediately makes it clear whether the product is genuine Dana or a dangerous counterfeit," said the company in a statement. "This authentication delivers certain results: the QR code and fingerprint cannot be copied."
Dana has created a video to explain how the label and app can be used to authenticate Victor Reinz sealants and gasket removers.
Alongside the ability to check parts of authenticity in the face of what Dana says is a "global rise in counterfeiting," the label can also be used to access product and technical service information as well as installation instructions for the replacement part.
Additional products in its range will start using the label later this year, including Spicer drivetrain products and Glaser cylinder head gaskets.
"Authentic Vision’s authentication solution makes it easy for our customers to receive relevant product data while making sure they hold a genuine product in their hands," said Alfred Wimmer, Dana's product manager aftermarket EMEA.
"We appreciate Authentic Vision’s remarkable flexibility in customising their solution to meet our needs," he added. "This resulted in minimal integration effort on both digital and physical fronts, enabling a swift global launch of the programme."
