Brief: CBP seizes fake home theatre sound systems

Around $1.4m-worth of counterfeit Cavelli home theatre speaker systems were intercepted in Minnesota by US customs last month.

The shipment of rail car 480 home theatre systems was seized en route to Ranier by officers working at the International Falls Port of Entry. Examination of the speaker systems revealed counterfeit markings that infringe trademarks held by Cavelli, a manufacturer of acoustic equipment based in Sweden. Cavelli’s systems retail for upwards of $2,000 apiece.

“Counterfeiting adversely affects lawful rights holders of their original ideas and the ability to make a profit from them,” said Anthony Jackson, International Falls Port Director. “Counterfeiting also harms consumers because manufacturers of forged products have little motivation to use safe, high-quality materials in their products.”
