Brother unveils holographic security label

DuPont Authentication is to help Brother protect its laser and inkjet supplies from illegal counterfeiting.
Brother will use DuPont's Izon 3D security holograms in combination with the Traceology eVerification system to allow users to validate the authenticity of Brother supplies they purchase. The packs carry a security label with two high-security holograms alongside a unique reference number (pictured), enabling visual authentication and verification that can be completed online or through a mobile app.
The online authentication system features the additional functionality of empowering consumers to report suspicious or counterfeit products directly to Brother, resulting in quick action to eliminate counterfeit products from the market.
"The risks of counterfeit supplies are quite serious for companies like Brother, that have worked hard to establish quality products in the market and have a keen interest in protecting their brand, reputation, and above all, their customers," said Peter Waker, global business director, DuPont Authentications.
"Illegal counterfeit supplies can destroy a printer, plugging nozzles and producing far fewer or inferior printouts, if they perform at all," he added.
The label is being rolled out on Brother ink cartridges, toner cartridges and drum units.
