Cisco confirms data breach and launches investigation

Cisco has said that some of its data, as well as customer data, has been stolen by a hacker that has offered it for sale on the Dark Web.

The networking technology giant said it has launched an investigation with the help of law enforcement but said it has "found no evidence of our systems being impacted." The hacker, reported to be infamous cybercriminal IntelBroker, claimed to have pilfered source code, confidential documents, encryption keys and other information.

"At this stage in our investigation, we have determined that a small number of files that were not authorised for public download may have been published," Cisco said, adding: "As of now, we have not observed any confidential information such as sensitive PII or financial data to be included but continue to investigate to confirm."

The company also said that it has disabled public access to the site while we continue the investigation.
