Publicly-owned group Indian Oil has introduced a track-and-trace system for canisters of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) aimed at improving trust in the brand.
In the first phase of the rollout, the codes are being added to around 20,000 canisters filled at the Madanpur Khadar Indane Bottling Plant in New Delhi, which the company said will generate better safety and transparency for customers and increase trust in the brand. All 14.2 kg canisters sold in India's domestic market will carry the codes in the next three months, according to an NDTV report.
Using the codes, customers will be able to access information about the cylinder, for example where it was bottled, the identity of the distributor, and whether safety tests were done.
