Irish police make 2nd arrest in €10m fake phone scam

Detectives from Ireland's Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) have arrested a man in his 40s in connection with an investigation into the supply of counterfeit mobile devices.

The arrest is the latest development in Operation Shrike, which led to the arrest of another man in his 40s in September, the seizure of more than €143,000 in cash, and the freezing of 14 bank accounts. Details of the allegations levelled against the men are scant at the moment but reportedly involve a €10m fraud against an undisclosed phone company.

The latest arrest took place in the Dublin area yesterday, and the main is currently being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.
