Leica Geo turns to Schreiner to tackle product piracy
Staff reporter, 29-Oct-2014
Schreiner ProSecure's security seal technology is being used to protect products made by measurement instrument specialist Leica Geosystems.
The programme centres around the use of Schreiner's security seals, which deploy a number of features including tamper protection, colour-shifting inks, holographic strips and the company's KeySecure system that allows end-users to check the authenticity of an item via a website using their smartphone.
The new labelling solution will be used on all Leica Geosystems' accessories, which include both mechanical and optical tools such as prisms, tribrachs, poles and tripods and electrical equipment like batteries, cables, memory cards and USB sticks.
"Previously, it was almost impossible to distinguish easily between genuine Leica Geosystems original accessories and counterfeit products," said Gerhard Soenser, a product manager at Leica Geosystems.
"We encourage all our customers to use the unique security code to ensure that they benefit from the reliability and quality that comes with a genuine Leica Geosystems product."
The security label designed by Schreiner for Leica came in first in the 'Security' category in this year's FINAT label competition with the judges saying it is "small, but packs a mighty punch."
The technology company also picked up the same award in 2013 for a security level deployed by carmaker BMW.
