Mercedes-Benz has published a video to highlight the technical and safety differences between genuine parts and counterfeit goods.
Putting the parts through a road test highlighted that although the counterfeits may look similar, their standard for safety fails to meet that of a Mercedes-Benz genuine part, with potentially life-threatening consequences.
The video - which examines the effects of installing fake tie rods in a vehicle - marks an increased willingness among companies affected by counterfeiting to tackle the problem head on, and make sure that customers are fully aware of the risks associated with saving money on critical replacement parts.
"This video shows road tests and bench tests demonstrating the dangers presented by these counterfeit products," said the carmaker.
"Counterfeit replacement parts jeopardise not only the reputation of the trademark owner, but also the safety of customers."
