PolyOne showcases new anti-counterfeit technology
Phil Taylor, 20-Oct-2013
US polymer firm PolyOne has introduced a new anti-counterfeit portfolio under the Percept brand.
The range "draws from covert, overt and forensic techniques, enabling manufacturers to efficiently protect their products from counterfeiting or unauthorised distribution," according to the company, which is targeting the technology at the pharmaceutical, consumer goods and electronics sectors.
The offering includes a range of formulation additives that can be added to polymer masterbatches, such as pigments and taggants. The company is however quick to point out that its sees itself offering anti-counterfeiting as a "consultative service", rather than simply serving as a technology supplier.
"Percept technologies are the latest example of our commitment to our solutions-based approach focused on helping customers enhance their brand and grow their business," commented John Van Hulle, president of PolyOne's $229m Global Colour, Additives and Inks unit.
"This highly customizable set of technologies was developed to help our customers protect and grow market share and reduce risk," he added.
The service aspect of the offering lies in providing confidential, expert assistance with technology choice, design, usage, process, product, and specification development, according to the company.
The services "help to shorten product development times and maintain quality levels for products that require positive identification," it added.
