US air pump manufacturer HIBLOW has warned that a Chinese company has been selling counterfeits of its repair kits and diaphragms on online marketplaces that could destroy the pump.
The unidentified company – which HIBLOW says has been operating for at least three years – is selling knock-offs on Amazon and eBay that appear “nearly identical at first glance” and “include language in the listing that is meant to deceive,” including the use of trademarked terms.
HIBLOW’s pumps are used for things like pond aeration, septic system aeration and wastewater handling, as well as medical, laboratory and industrial applications.
“Installing a knock-off repair kit can be disastrous,” said HIBLOW. “Often the parts will not fit properly which can cause the rod to move out of alignment and destroy the inside of the pump. The pump can also run louder. The diaphragms often rupture in a few months, or even a few days.”
The company has provided a guide to spotting counterfeits here, and has asked anyone who receives a counterfeit to leave a negative review and report it to Amazon or eBay.
