Sennheiser rolls out anti-counterfeiting labels

Sennheiser headphonesSennheiser has rolled out anti-counterfeiting QR codes and ID numbers to tackle the rise of fake headphones.

The new labels feature Quick Response (QR) codes and identification numbers consumers can use online to check the authenticity of a product. Sennheiser hopes investing in technology will give it the edge in its long-running struggle to restrict the rise of counterfeit headphones.

"We have been fighting counterfeits for five years with some result, but now we have officially declared war on counterfeiting," said Marc Vincent, president of Greater China at Sennheiser.

Consumers can scan the QR code or enter the identification number at qr-sennheiser.com to check if the product is genuine. If the code has been entered many times before the website is supposed to warn the product is suspicious.

The labels also feature visual elements to differentiate them from fakes. When tilted under direct light the label reflects rainbow colours and an enlarged copy of the last digit of the security code becomes visible.
