South Korea suspends 2 more nuclear reactors

South Korea has suspended operations at two more nuclear reactors in a continuation of the fake safety certificate scandal.
Last year the discovery of components with forged safety certificates in South Korea prompted a shutdown of two reactors. South Korea jailed six nuclear power engineers in relation to the case last month, but the suspension of more reactors shows the impact is still being felt.
The latest action means the scandal has affected almost one-fifth of nuclear power reactors in South Korea. One of the most recently affected reactors is currently undergoing maintenance. The other is a new reactor. Both will remain inactive until the suspect parts are replaced.
Knowledge Economy Minister Hong Suk-woo said the parts are non-core items, such as fuses, cooling fans and power switches, the BBC reports. Other industries could use these without a safety certificate, but the standards for nuclear power plants are higher.
