Speck continues successful campaign against counterfeits
Phil Taylor, 22-Nov-2012
Smartphone and tablet case manufacturer Speck Products has chalked up another victory against organisations engaged in counterfeiting and copying its products,
Speck obtained a judgment in a lawsuit filed in California against Tsai & Shaw which includes financial damages - plus an injection against the defendant - and brings the tally of damages obtained by the company to $1.2m in the last 12 months alone.
In a statement, Speck said Tsai & Shaw had copied its designs and also used its branding on illegitimate copies of its products, including iPhone cases, and that the case was "the largest amount of counterfeit sales the company has uncovered and litigated against".
Tsai & Shaw were found to have contravened Speck's CandyShell case design, which combines a a hard outer shell and a soft interior in a "single-piece, form-fitting design", said the company.
"We are sending a clear message that Speck is making every effort to avoid inferior product getting in the hands of our consumers," commented Speck chief executive Irene Baran.
