UK company fined for selling fake Apple chargers

A Bournemouth, UK company has been fined more than £100,000 ($140,000) for importing counterfeit and unsafe chargers for Apple devices.

Computer repair and refurbishment business CK IT Solutions was fined after a raid by Trading Standards resulted in the seizure of 1,400 suspect products. The illegal activity came to light after customs intercepted a shipment of 220 fake chargers at East Midlands Airport in 2018, according to a Bournemouth Echo report.

Bournemouth Crown Court ruled the company had derived a benefit of £100,000 from its criminal conduct and the business was told to pay a confiscation order for this total sum within three months under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Some of the counterfeit chargers were sent for analysis and were deemed to be hazardous, placing users at risk of an electric shock.
