Fake fireworks putting the public at risk in UK

Counterfeit fireworks are circulating in the UK ahead of the country's Bonfire Night celebrations on November 5.
Trading Standards officers in Newcastle seized counterfeit bangers, rockets and sparklers worth thousands of pounds in a raid on a property in the Walker area of the city, according to a ChronicleLive.co.uk article, which notes fake UGG boots and Lacoste perfume were also intercepted
Meanwhile, two children in Strathclyde, Scotland, were injured by fake fireworks earlier this month after they exploded prematurely,
The two boys from Motherwell - aged 15 and 12 - suffered burns after bangers they were holding in their hands exploded and were fortunate to escape more serious injury, according to local media reports.
"Following examination of the bangers involved in each of the incidents by Trading Standards, Strathclyde Police and the Forensic Explosive Laboratory, they have been deemed to be counterfeit and pose a significant danger to those using them," said Strathclyde police in a statement.
Newcastle trading standards manager David Ellerington said the local council is "very concerned" about the seizure and is urging anyone with information on those involved in storing and supplying the fireworks to come forward.
