Fake Fidossi wine seized in Nigeria

Nigeria’s food and drugs regulator has taken 90 cartons of falsified and unlicensed wine out of circulation in Benin City, Edo province.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) swooped on the fake Fidossi Spumante wine during raids at several retailers in Benin City, according to a Punch report. Fidossi is a Nigerian conglomerate with several business interests in addition to its distributing wine.

The unlicensed wine was produced as Festa Spumante and is considered fake as it has no NAFDAC registration number and the facility producing it has not been inspected, says newspaper. Genuine Fidossi Spumante sells for around 8,000 naira ($22) per carton, while the knock-off retails for around 5,500 naira.
