Fake tax stamps and liquor seized in Kenya

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have seized counterfeit Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax stamps at a distillery in Nyahururu town that has now been closed down.

The plant was producing cut-price spirits – including vodka – and local wines, according to a report in local newspaper The Star.  The owner of the illegal plant has been issued with a seizure notice and police summons, and is due to appear in front of the authorities to face charges on January 11.

In November, DCI detectives and KRA officials recovered over 800,000 bottles of alcohol and 130,000 fake KRA stamps in a raid at an alcohol manufacturing plant in Athi River.
