Kentucky State Police recover $5m in stolen cargo

Kentucky State Police have recovered more than $5m in property stolen during shipping and shut down a criminal organisation thought to have carried out at least $10m in cargo theft.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said that the 18-month investigation by KSP has resulted in the opening of 16 cargo theft investigations in connection with the case, leading to 10 federal indictments and seven arrests.

The gang is reported to have targeted food and beverage shipments as well as copper, using a range of modus operandi including identity theft and manipulating trucking resources to threaten supply chains.
