Oregon man gets probation for fake Leupold scope scam

A man from Oregon, has been sentenced to five years’ probation for trafficking counterfeit Leupold rifle scopes online.

Mark Aaron Culp (58) of Columbia City sold 13 Chinese-made Leupold scopes at well below market price, netting about $3,700 from the online sales though at least two commercial websites: GunBroker.com and eBay. Leupold & Stevens, a 100-year-old optics company, manufactures its rifle scopes in Beaverton, Oregon.

Culp, who had no prior criminal record, was fortunate to escape with a light sentence. He faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $2m fine and 3 years of supervised release.
