Beauty shop owner jailed for giving fake Botox

The owner of a beauty salon in Washington, USA, has been sentenced to 13 months in prison after injecting customers with fake versions of two drugs – Botox and Restylane – which left some scarred for life.

Botox (botulinum toxin) and Restylane (hyaluronic acid) are both indicated for reducing wrinkles and should be administered by a qualified medical doctor.

Xin He administered the fakes to her customers, despite having no medical training, and pleaded guilty to one count of misbranding of a drug and two counts of receipt and delivery of an adulterated device.

She continued to illegally treat customers with Botox and Restylane despite being served a cease and desist order back in 2006.
