Coronavirus fears driving fake pharmacy spam

Rising concern about the novel coronavirus outbreak is being exploited by scammers trying to direct consumers to dubious online pharmacies.

A report on SecurityBoulevard.com notes that people searching for information on the new coronavirus Cov-19 online are having their search results “polluted” with fake and meaningless results.

The most common scams were comment spamming – an automatic technique used to inject links to pharmacies into comments on sites – and a more sophisticated approach in which users are directed to a hijacked site made to look like a neutral coronavirus information resource and then on to a rogue pharmacy.
