H1N1 vaccine stolen by cargo thieves

More than 900 doses of swine flu vaccine intended for use in immunisation campaigns in Wisconsin, USA, were stolen last week in what appears to be a crime of opportunity.

The vaccines included both injectable and intranasal products and were in a truck stolen from a school operating as a vaccination centre, according to local press reports. The refrigerated truck was reportedly left unattended with the engine running.

The truck was found abandoned with none of its contents missing, but as a precaution all the doses are being returned to the manufacturers. One man has been arrested in connection with the theft and two others are being sought.
