Staff writer, 22-Feb-2009
Ahura Scientific, which makes handheld instruments for chemical identification, has hired Michael Falvey as vice president and chief financial officer.
Falvey has more than 25 years of experience managing the finance, accounting, administration, human resource and IT functions at large organizations, including publicly traded companies Aspect Medical Systems and Millennium Pharmaceuticals.
Most recently, Falvey served as CFO for Aspect Medical Systems, a company which makes brain monitoring technologies.
Ahura's Raman sectroscopy-based TruScan instruments can be used by people without extensive chemistry training to authenticate medication directly in the field. TruScan examines the chemical composition of all components of a pharmaceutical dosage - APIs, excipients, fillers, dyes, coatings - to create a unique spectrum or chemical 'fingerprint' representing the specific authentic material.
