Nigerian man accused of importing falsified tramadol

A Nigerian businessman has pleaded not guilty to charges that he imported falsified tablets of the opioid painkiller tramadol.

Afamefuna Udensi (43) has been arraigned on a three-count charge of importation and sale of fake and unregistered drugs, according to a Vanguard report. He has been granted bail of 10 million naira (around $24,350).

Udensi is accused of importing 100g of Phini Tramadol, supposedly made by Nigerian drugmaker Macdech Pharma, which was subsequently discovered to be unregistered and counterfeit. The case is due to come to trial in February.
