Payne Security buys BP to expand in pharma and labels
Staff reporter, 12-Mar-2010
Brand protection company Payne Security has acquired BP Secure Solutions, a UK manufacturer of self-adhesive labels which also specialises in authentication solutions and is a major supplier to the pharmaceutical industry.
Payne, which is part of Filtrona's Coated & Security Products (CSP) division, said the deal was "consistent with CSP's vision to be the premier provider of creative and secure packaging, identity and security solutions."
Payne is perhaps best known for its position in identity cards and document authentication, and sees the BP acquisition as a way to accelerate a move into the pharmaceutical sector, while also adding labelling to its technology portfolio.
BP Secure Solutions' on-label technologies include sequential codes, infrared, colour-shift and polarising inks, fluorescing varnishes and forensic taggants, some of which are licensed from the likes of Kodak, Sicpa and JDSU, as well as Payne itself.
