Ukraine has shut down a clandestine production facility for falsified medicines run by a rogue pharmaceutical company worker.
The facility was operating in the town of Lubny in the Poltava region of Ukraine, manufacturing counterfeit drugs that were then distributed through a drugstore chain, according to a report on the Petosevic.com website.
The operation resulted in the seizure of more than 20 counterfeit medicines, almost 5.5kg of raw materials and other substances, as well as packaging, labels, and medical equipment.
Changes to Ukraine’s criminal code increased the penalties for the production and distribution of falsified medicines, “so the persons found guilty in this case are facing a prison sentence of 8-10 years,” according to the report.
