Chinese group Sinopharm Tech has entered the anti-counterfeit category by purchasing a 25 per cent stake in Shenzhen Ficus Technology Holdings for HK$200m (around $26m).
The move marks a further diversification for Sinopharm Tech, which has been active in in China's welfare lottery and sports lottery industries for more than 20 years, provides Internet services and recently entered the personal protective equipment (PPE) market.
Shenzhen Ficus holds patents on anti-counterfeit packaging devices for products and adhesive devices in China and Japan, and has filed applications in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Korean and Malaysia. Sinopharm Tech says it intends to apply the security technologies to its lottery tickets business.
