New Zealand adds holographic window to banknotes
Staff reporter, 12-Apr-2016
New Zealand has unveiled new $20, $50 and $100 notes that feature a holographic window along with other authentication features.
All the new Series 7 banknotes incorporate the same four main security features, which alongside the holographic window are a colour-changing bird image, puzzle number and raised ink. They will come into circulation from 16 May, rounding out the introduction of the series that started with new $5 and $10 notes last October.
An interactive website has been set up to introduce the new notes and security features and can be accessed here.
The rate of counterfeiting of NZ banknotes has been estimated at one per million notes in circulation, according to official figures released in 2013, down from three per million in 2011.
