Warped protects cigars with Prooftag security label

Faced with rising counterfeit sales of its cigars, Warped has started using security labels developed by Prooftag.

The boutique cigar company said the problem came to its attention after it heard reports that one of its popular Skyflower cigar brands was being sold online, with fake labels placed on lower-cost cigars in order to secure premium pricing.  It’s solution is to use a security label developed by Prooftag on the cellophane sleeve enclosing its premium limited edition cigars, starting later this year.

The label includes a QR code, serial number and Bubble Tag authentication factor, all of which can be checked via Warped’s website. The tags disintegrate once removed to avoid re-use on fake cigars, according to CigarAfficionado.com.
